In with a splash
Click on this picture to enlarge it.
Channel Divers out of Brighton were running a trip just close to Brighton Pier where I was able to grab these shots. The divers were able to go underneath the pier, which i'd love to do - imagine all the coins and "stuff" that have fallen between the wooden slats on the pier.....

Pebbles on a beach
In trying to perfect that seaside shot I've come back again to the stereotypical deckchair shot. Unusual in only that most of the deckchairs in Brighton have blue and white stripes - but not these babies......

Last in series
As the last in this series on the film Quadrophenia here a shot of the Sea Life Centre, in the film the exterior is meant to represent the Embassy Ball Room, here a big sequence showing the Mods in full regalia dancing the night away is shot. Jimmy (Phil Daniels) leaps from the balcony in an attempt to get noticed into the crowd..... The interior of the club is filmed somewhere up in London.
There you have it - that concludes our short Quadrophenia montage!!!

The Ace Face
With Sting at the head of the pack, playing the character of the "Ace Face" - the Mods come into town in this screen grab from the film Quadrophenia. Continuing with the theme - here's the shot as pictured in 1978 and then 29 years later in 2007.

We're the mods! - QUADROPHENIA
Just to prove it, and to give you a viewing, the cafe scene riot is in this movie.

Cafe in Quadrophenia
There's a scene in the film Quadrophenia where a cafe is wrecked in the riot - this is the place (or plaice!) as it looks now, on the corner of the Kings Road and Ship Street.

Quadrophenia, Brighton
An American work colleague of mine spotted me entering my office yesterday with my crash helmet; new to Brighton, but familiar with the film Quadrophenia, he asked me "Mod or Rocker?"
"Rocker of course" was the reply.
But this got me thinking - perhaps I could do a few photos from locations featured in the film.
So, yesterday evening I went to one of the most famous locations. This brighton photo is of the alleyway where Jimmy (Phil Daniels) and Steph (Leslie Ash) "get it on" following the riot between the mods and the rockers on the seafront. If you click on the picture to enlarge it - you can see some graffitti - I think this alleyway is a bit of a shrine to the film.
And the music is cool too, written and performed by The Who.
If you are unfamiliar with Quadrophenia - then I recommend a viewing, it's dated a little, but you do get a sense of the tensions between rival factions of youngsters looking for fun and a good punch up on Bank Holiday Weekends!!!
The alleyway is just off East Street.

Merry go round, Carousel...
Staying with the theme of jiggery-pokery with shutter speed here's another example taken at Brighton Pier.
Your thoughts on how i might have improved this shot are welcomed...

Practising with my camera
Just messing around with the shutter speed meant that I could capture this shot taken at the Waltzers at the end of the pier.
I think it captures the colour, movement and fun of the waltzers.

Down at the Volks railway mid-way station on Madeira Drive there's a new set of facilities, Beach football, volleyball and a bar with kids sandpit felt like a welcome relief from the crowds today as the temperatures soared to 25degrees C in Brighton.....sweltering!!!

Making sure Brighton and Hove is a nice clean place to live and visit - this street cleaner caught my eye - only because he was smoking and I've given up smoking recently (3 weeks) he looks like he's really enjoying a long puff on that cigarette :(

What a day!
And what a weekend! The sun shone all weekend on our long 4 day break - perfect, even had our first BBQ of the season down on Hove seafront.
This shot taken from the boat is of the buoy warning people from the West Pier - it's prudent to obey as there's loads of sub-structure underneath the water, lurking around to damage the unwary.
Further photos over at Brighton Daily Photo Extra.

So pull up a deckchair and watch the world go by.

Easter Sunday
The roads are clogged, the sun is shining, the crowds are flocking to the coast - It's Bank Holiday Weekend and it's chaos!
A favourite amongst tourists and locals alike is the Regency - a landmark on the seafront that does a great breakfast and a mean fish supper.
Happy Easter.

Couldn't really capture the atmosphere of the sun streaming down through the clouds this evening - damn wish I was a better photographer, anyone got any hints as to how I could've really capture the rays of sun coming through the clouds on the horizon?
