This is the sight that usually greets those arriving by the sea from the South East. The white chalk cliffs stop and start and go all the way round to Dover and beyond.

Beach hut lock up

Just a touch of saturation and sharpness bought out the best of this beach hut lock up on a rainy day on the seafront.

Rock pools

Down at Peacehaven at low tide you can see mile after mile of great rock pools, teeming with crabs and fun stuff for the kids to do. More shots over at Brighton Daily Photo Extra

Through these rather austere looking gates is the famous school called Roedean. An imposing structure just behind the Marina....

This was the sunshine yesterday evening - this morning, torrential rain - it's like a long playing record now - rain rain rain!

BDP will be off air until Monday as I'm off to a pals 40th in Belgium, Malmedy. Travelling by motorcycle in the rain doesn't exactly fill me with joy :( but a cold beer on the other end does.

With the rough seas over the last few weeks I wouldn't be surprised if these chaps haven't been able to get out in a while.

As day time has been a little dreary of late (I know I keep banging on about the weather), I thought I'd post this shot of a night view so you cant see the clouds.....

And the heavens opened and here we are - locked inside in JULY (for chrissakes....!)

The recent bad weather I think will have hit our tourism business hard the last month - Brighton has its own economy based on attracting visitors and I fear it would have been affected. People want to head for the sun when the weather's as unreliable has it's been - head for Spain has been the rallying cry......

I'm now fearing the worst for the Big Chill festival which we're attending - and looking at Glasto being a washout doesn't inspire me with confidence :(

View from the top

Just outside of Roedean School as you come into Brighton from the east this is the view you'll be confronted with - the swooping round construction at sea is the Marina. This is the first sunshine we've seen in DAYS! but it's still windy and cold.....

Tall Ships

Make way for the tall ships, spotted nestling in Shoreham Harbour behind the lock is this tall ship. I couldn't get close enough to get her name or find any news as to why she's here in Brighton - any one know any news about this ship?
