West pier at dusk

Pulling over whilst the Labour party conference was on - with big police presence - was quite difficult - but something I HAD to do on the way home as the sky just looked fantastic.

Labour Party Conference 2009

Traffic's at a standstill, heavy handed police everywhere, security check, x-ray machines, armed guards - yup must be that time of year again when the Labour Party come to town. Held every Autumn, Labour's Annual Conference is one of the largest and most high profile political events in Europe.

View from the inside

So I'm running the Brighton Marathon - which has led to the necessity of joining a gym - those of you that know me also understand that this is an unlikely turn of events - marathon sausage roll eating competition, possibly but Dean, running. Surely not.

Well today marks a bit of a tiny tiny landmark - I ran for 5km without stopping. Now - I know that might not sound impressive - but hey - like I said, those that know me etc etc.

Don't worry I have until April 2010 to get into shape!

But I've also signed up for a 10km Brooks run in November - so there is a little pressure on.

I rewarded today's efforts with a coffee in the bar above the Gym - this is the view from the Thistle Brighton lobby/restaurant. Hey a fella's got to have something to look forward to - at least it wasn't a pint of cider!

If you feel the urge to donate/sponsor me - I'm running for an amazing charity - it's the Chestnut Tree House Hospice which cares for terminally ill children and their families - my dedicated wife works there so it's a no brainer really.

Here's where you can sponsor me over at so far I've raised £115 against a target of £1000 - so please, only if you want to, make a donation to a superb cause.

Celebrity Restaurants

Brighton seems to be getting a rep for the being the home of celebrity restaurants. This time it's Dermot O'Leary and his partners with the restaurant Fishy Fishy.

Located in the Lanes I visited recently for my Wife's birthday - we had a cracking night with WAY too much wine. Food was fantastic (and reasonably priced - don't be put off that this is a celebrity therefore expensive restaurant) and the service was impeccable - in fact we had such a laugh with our waiter that evening.

Highly recommended if you're in town.

It's meant to be the next millionaires playground. Shoreham I like for it's tranquility - especially down by the river.

Red Arrows Display over Brighton 18th Sept 09

Wow - what can I say - we were treated to an amazing Red Arrows Air Display over Brighton today. Virtually unannounced (thought to be part of the White Air Festival) the incredible Red Arrows display team rocked and totally amazed those watching. People came out of offices, watched from rooftops and the world seemed to stop for the 10-15 minute display. Awesome.

This picture was taken by Magico Martinez - as there was a BDP fail - I didn't have my camera. Thanks Magico. As I get more pics they'll follow.

(Since posting this at 11.55 today here's some more pictures courtesy of Antony Mayfield and The Argus)

Ker-a-zee Golf!

Down near the pier are all sorts of touristy type attractions - not least of which is my 7-yr-old boy's favourite, the crazy golf! It always amazes me just how many adults (sans children) are always playing......

The last of summer

Silhouetted against the evening sky. The Carousel will be all packed away soon ready for the Autumn. Already the evenings are getting colder - my favourite time of year.

Brighton burn up!

This weekend saw the annual arrival of the Brighton Speed Trials and the Ace Cafe Brighton Burn Up.

The first even on Saturday saw all kinds of vehicles racing to get the fastest speed on a straight (Madeira Drive).

And the second saw THOUSANDS of motorcycles land in on a sunny Brighton day, regardless of your view of motorcyclists it certainly is an impressive sight.
