Volks Electric Railway - Brighton Photo

Taken from the Volks Website:

" Opened in 1883, Volk's Electric Railway is the 'world's oldest operating electric railway'. The brainchild of inventor Magnus Volk the railway runs for just over a mile along Brighton seafront between Aquarium (for Brighton Pier) and Black Rock (for the Marina). Although operated by Brighton & Hove City Council the railway has a dedicated supporters group, the Volk's Electric Railway Association (VERA) that provides active assistance to the railway's full time staff and a forum for the collection of Volk's artefacts and ephemera."

It usually is closed in the winter months - open in time for Easter. Just another of Brighton's character quirks.

Modern Architecture

Photography in Brighton can be as exciting or as dull as you make it! Depending on your viewpoint I'll let you make an assessment of this one. I don't usually do many people, I'd love to do some portrait in the coming weeks. I just loved the lines of this building which faces out to sea on the way to Brighton Marina.

View from the Terraces

OK so it's a much better venue in the summer - where you can sink a coldie and look out over the water towards the pier. However The Terraces is a neat place in the winter too - especially when the sea is as calm as it is. Reinvigorating my interest in Brighton Hove Photography is proving a real eye opener - I now need new stuff to photograph - I'd better get creative!

Roedean gets a facelift

Travelling along the coast towards the Marina I noticed that Roedean has had a facelift.

If you look back at my previous post of Roedean you can see the marked difference.

Brighton Beach - Aussie Style

From Dean in Australia: "Seen your guest contributions. As you recently requested here’s a little shot of Brighton Beach SA, along with its very own Jetty. Taken during our recent heatwave on a day over 40c. They are planting in the foreground in order to make the dunes more hardy. We too suffer from longshore drift. Night times on the beach during such weather are amazing. So many people out on the beach just strolling, lazing, soaking up the atmosphere. With all your snow recently, it does feel like we’re on a different planet here."

More from Sean

As I'm just back from skiing - I've not had chance to get out snapping (not in this pouring torrential rain anyhoo!) SO this shot is from previous contributor Sean - it's of a pub called the juggler our on Western Road.

As predicted - It certainly DID snow - and it brought the place to standstill. There's more photos of snow in Brighton and Hove over at Brighton Daily Photo Extra.

We're expecting snow!

We're due snow today or tomorrow - so continuing with other people submissions to the site - here's another from Juan Carlos Merino - in fact the sister of Juan!

This shot is of Sussex Square in the last snow storm we had in April.
